Microsoft Confirms Latest Updates Are Freezing Windows

Microsoft has a good reputation for Windows updates and, unfortunately, is not positive. This reputation now requires a boost, as reports indicate that computers crash during the last patch update process on Tuesday or remain blocked during the boot process.

Microsoft has confirmed that "Devices installed with Sophos Endpoint Protection installed and managed by Sophos Central or Sophos Enterprise Console encounter a problem that could cause the system to crash or restart after installing this update." Users of Avast for Business and CloudCare reported that computers were blocked at startup and that Avira Antivirus users were experiencing very slow Windows performance. It seems that there is a freeze / block combination during the installation process of the update, the boot loops and the post-upgrade locks. Systems become slow and stop responding when they start successfully.

Unfortunately, it seems that many versions of Windows are affected by update issues. Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows Embedded 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows 10. The exact version in question depends on the antivirus software installed.

The good news is that Microsoft has temporarily prevented devices from receiving these updates when Sophos Endpoint is installed until a solution is available. However, at the time of publication, there was no official confirmation of the problems experienced by Avast and Avira users, but only for Sophos. Of course, this is not useful if you have already installed patch updates on Tuesday. If you have them and need to repair them, you must start your computer in safe mode and reset the updates.
