  • Edifier TWS1 - True Wireless Bluetooth Earphones

    Hora: Nov. 26, 2019

    The Edifier TWS1 Touch control Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Earbuds is supposed to come out before the Edifier TWS2 but delayed because of the chipset certification process. Fast forward a few months, the TWS1 is finally ready and here’s what we think about it.

    What’s in the box:
    * Edifier TWS1
    * Carrying & charging cradle
    * USB Type-A to USB Micro Type-B cable
    * Replacement ear tips

    * Paper documentation

    The Edifier TWS1, unlike its TWS2 counterpart, uses touch control interface which explains the lack of a physical button on the earpiece. The control scheme is relatively easy:

    * Single-tap to play/pause/answer/end calls
    * Double-tap to go to the next track
    * Triple-tap to go to the previous track
    * Tap-hold 2 seconds on the left earbud to disconnect

    * Tap-hold 5 seconds on the left earbud to enter pairing mode

    The carrying cradle for the TWS1 has a magnetically secured top lid, enough to keep the earbuds in place even if you throw the cradle into your bag. The build quality of the earpiece and the cradle, however, left a lot to be desired with its glossy and hollow-ish plastic body.

    True to the TWS trend, the earphone will turn on and start pairing once you take it out of the cradle. It has IPX5 splash and sweatproof, which is great for those who want to use it during their gym sessions.

    As for the sound quality, the use of aptX audio codec is significantly better than the TWS2’s common SBC codec. The bass is pretty mild and the trebles are not overly sparkling to overshoot the mid-tones.

    Charging is done through the micro USB port at the back and the front red LED will stay on until the cradle is fully charged.

    On paper, the earpiece itself will hold up to 8 hours of music playback time while the cradle holds another 24 hours battery life.

    Also, don’t bother using the Edifier TWS1 for gaming. There is about 1 second of audio delay, hence making it unsuitable for any time-critical usages.

    The TWS1 has a superior audio chipset that supports the better sounding Qualcomm aptX codec but loses out on the overall build quality.

    Upon understanding both models and their design philosophy, we can safely say that the Edifier TWS1 is for those who want a pair of good-sounding TWS earbuds with a fairly reasonable build quality.
